At present, women make up less than 10% of the engineering sector and with a large skills gap increasing year on year, a more diverse workforce has never been more crucial. National Women in Engineering Day (NWED) aims to change that figure. Set up by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) to promote women who work within the industry and encourage engineering as a serious career prospect to young women, NWED has become a world wide social media campaign. It’s vital that everyone in the engineering community gets behind this campaign and shows their support using the hashtag #NWED today on twitter! What do you think is the key to encouraging more women in engineering? I’d be thrilled to hear your thoughts.
